GREEN CARE HABITAT ACTIVITIES-PROGRAMMES
A. ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT- PROJECT (GREEN KENYA INITIATIVE)
- Green Schools Initiative Project
Green Schools Initiative Project which falls under the larger Green Kenya Initiative has turned out to be one of the most successful environmental Projects being implemented by Green Care Habitat in Schools around the Country in Partnership with Unilever Tea Kenya Ltd who have so far provided us with thousands of assorted tree seedlings since 2004. Here the target is to establish/form Environmental/Forest Clubs that will plant at least 500 trees in each of the learning institutions spread across the country by 2007 with quarter of the trees planted being Fruit and Medicinal Trees.
Where Trees are planted in School and other learning Institutions
- Around the School Compound
- Long the road leading to the School on both sides
- Woodlot within the School Compound.

2. Green Homes Initiative Project.
Under this Project, GRECAH works with Women by providing and helping them collect tree seedlings and plant those within their homesteads forming small woodlots that in return ensure regular supply of wood fuel as an estimated 70% of Kenyans use wood fuel as either firewood or charcoal.
Where Trees are planted in Homesteads
- Within homesteads as woodlots
- On the farm boundaries and in the farms through Agro – forestry
- Along the road leading to the Homestead on both sides

B. INFORMATION, EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION MATERIALS (IEC) – PROJECT ON HIVAIDS, MALARIA, RAPE AND YOUTH ALCOHOL /DRUG ABUSE AWARENESS
This has formed our major source of income in the Organization in the absence of donor funding. Through development, publishing and selling the above materials, we have been able to raise fund funds to implement our other core Activities. The Booklets have proved popular among the few people who have come across them. The urgent need and demand for these booklets have given a huge challenge in our search for a DONOR to sponsor the production in large quantities and distributed them FREE OF CHARGE to the Members of the Public especially to Women and Youth who form the most affected and vulnerable section of the society.
More information on the various awareness creation materials is illustrated below;

MALARIA WALL CHART
-
Join The Fight Against Malaria
This was the first - Information, Communication and Education (IEC) researched, designed and printed by GRECAH in collaboration with The Department of Malaria Control – DMC – Ministry of Health - Government of Kenya and funded by the World Health Organization in 2004 – 2005. The same was updated and reprinted in 2006 in both English and Swahili.
C. POVERTY ALLEVIATION
Poverty Alleviation forms our third activity at Organization and also the least implemented due to the scarcity of funds as a result of the absence of DONOR FUNDING. However, this has not hindered the Organization from addressing Poverty which is prevalent among our TARGET GROUP- Women and Youth by encouraging them to get involved in Environmental Related Income Generating Activities (ERIGA).

The types of Environmental Related Activities that Green Care Habitat encourages include:
- Raising Tree Seedlings for sale
- Raising woodlots in homesteads and harvest wood to sale as wood fuel and building materials
- Raise fruit Trees
- Raise trees for wood carving and carpentry industry.
